An overview of working with Sessionwire Studio alongside Cubase/Nuendo
There are many use cases and workflows for each DAW when integrating Sessionwire for remote collaboration. We have created a basic template for each DAW to give an idea of what routing should look like in order to avoid feedback loops between users connected in Sessionwire Studio.
It is recommended that all recording be done on the performing side of the Sessionwire call - meaning one side needs to have a DAW open to record in, while the other simply monitors the performance through Sessionwire.
Each user may be using a different DAW or may/may not be using an audio interface - therefore, each user will need to reference the correct signal flow diagram for their particular DAW and setup.
Below are common setups when using Sessionwire alongside Cubase/Nuendo.
Sending Audio from Cubase/Nuendo

This workflow is the simplest way to get up and running with Cubase/Nuendo alongside Sessionwire. Simply placing the Sessionwire Send plugin on the Stereo Out channel of a Cubase/Nuendo project will produce the same results as in the downloadable template. There is no need to route any incoming audio into Cubase/Nuendo.
-
Set Sessionwire's Talkback Microphone and Talkback Speaker exactly as you would any video conferencing software - in the above image, the input is a webcam microphone and the output is the system's default output (an audio interface in this instance).
-
Ensure the HQ Audio Source is set to Sessionwire Send Plugin.
-
Ensure the HQ Audio Destination is the system's default output.
-
Insert the Sessionwire Send plugin on the System Out channel in Cubase/Nuendo.

This workflow will allow the sending of audio from a Cubase/Nuendo project while simultaneously receiving remote HQ audio directly into a Cubase/Nuendo project.
NOTE: In the Cubase/Nuendo template, both the Main and Stereo Out busses are routed to hardware output 1/2 using the Audio Connections window - it is necessary to have both in order to avoid feedback loops between users on a Sessionwire call.

-
In Cubase/Nuendo's Audio Connections window, create an output called "MIX OUT" - route this output to the system's main stereo output - it should be identical to the "Stereo Out" output.
-
Set Sessionwire's Talkback Microphone and Talkback Speaker exactly as you would any video conferencing software - in the above image, the input is a webcam microphone and the output is the system's default output (an audio interface in this instance).
-
Ensure Sessionwire's HQ Audio Source is set to Sessionwire Send Plugin.
-
Set Sessionwire's HQ Audio Destination to Sessionwire Receive Plugin.
-
Route all audio in the session to be streamed to the MIX OUT channel in Cubase/Nuendo.
-
Insert the Sessionwire Send plugin on the MIX OUT channel.
-
Create a Stereo Audio Track and set the output of the track to Stereo Out, bypassing the MIX OUT channel - label the track "SW HQ Receive".
-
Insert the Sessionwire Receive plugin on the "SW HQ Receive" track.
To record HQ audio from the remote connection, simply use Cubase's built in routing to select the SW HQ Rcv return track as the input of the destination track.

NOTE: In the Cubase/Nuendo template, both the MIX OUT and Stereo Out busses are routed to hardware output 1/2 using the I/O matrix - it is necessary to have both in order to avoid feedback loops between users on a Sessionwire call.

-
In Cubase/Nuendo's Audio Connections window, create an output called "MIX OUT" - route this output to the system's main stereo output - it should be identical to the "Stereo Out" output.
-
Set Sessionwire's Microphone input to Sessionwire Talkback Send Plugin.
-
Set Sessionwire's Speaker output to Sessionwire Talkback Receive Plugin.
-
Create a Mono Audio Track whose input is the audio interface channel that the talkback microphone is plugged into, and whose output is Stereo Out, bypassing the MIX OUT channel - label this track "SW TB Send". Input arm this track and mute it to avoid local feedback.
-
Insert the Sessionwire Talkback Send plugin on the "SW TB Send" track.
-
Create a Mono Audio Track whose input is No Input and whose output is Stereo Out, bypassing the MIX OUT channel - label this aux "SW TB Receive".
-
Insert the Sessionwire Talkback Receive Plugin on the "SW TB Receive" Audio Track.
-
Create a Stereo Audio Track whose output is Stereo Out, bypassing the MIX OUT channel - label this aux "SW HQ Receive".
-
Insert the Sessionwire Receive plugin on the "SW HQ Receive" aux.
-
Route all audio in the session to be streamed to the MIX OUT channel.
-
Insert the Sessionwire Send plugin on the MIX OUT channel.
To record HQ audio from the remote connection, simply use Cubase's routing to select the SW HQ Rcv track as the input of the destination track.
