Sessionwire and Ableton Live setup | Sessionwire Help

Use Sessionwire with Ableton Live

Ableton Live uses the VST3 or AU versions of the Sessionwire plugins. If Live doesn't list them after you install, open Settings > Plug-Ins, check VST3 or Audio Units are turned on, and click Rescan.

Send your mix

  1. Put the Sessionwire Send plugin at the end of the device chain on the Main track (called Master in Live 11 and earlier). For a separate cue mix, put it on a return track instead and use each track's send to feed it.
  2. In your Studio, set HQ Audio Source to the Sessionwire Send Plugin.
  3. Press play and check your HQ Audio meter moves in the Mixer.

If the Send plugin stutters when you loop

If the audio your Guests hear stutters or repeats when Live loops a section, send your audio to the Sessionwire driver with a Multi-Output or Aggregate device instead of the Send plugin. See Other ways to route audio into Sessionwire.

Record a Guest

The best recordings come from the performer's side. If you need to record here, read Record someone with the Receive plugin first, as the recording arrives late by the round trip.

  1. Turn on the Guest's HQ Audio in your Mixer.
  2. Put the Sessionwire Receive plugin on a return track. On a return track it's always receiving, whether or not anything is armed or playing.
  3. In your Studio, set HQ Audio Destination to the Sessionwire Receive Plugin.
  4. To record, create an audio track, set its Audio From to the return track with the Receive plugin, and record-arm it.

If your Guest hears themselves back, set the Receive return's Audio To to your interface's outputs (Ext. Out) instead of Main, so it doesn't feed the Send plugin on Main.

Talkback through Live

Only needed if your talkback mic isn't on input 1 or 2, or you want to process it. See Route Talkback through your DAW.

If something's wrong

If Live crashes when it loads the Sessionwire plugins, clear its plugin cache and rescan. If the plugins can't find their device, see Sessionwire drivers or plugins not showing up.
