Remote Desktop Control lets you take over another person's mouse and keyboard during a Session. Use it to set up a Guest's DAW, fix their audio routing, or show a student exactly where something is, instead of talking them through it.
Remote Desktop Control is in open beta. It's part of the Studio plan and the free trial.
What you need
- Both of you in the Sessionwire desktop app, not a browser. Your Guest doesn't need an account or a paid plan; they just open your link in the Sessionwire app.
- On a Mac, the person being controlled needs to allow Sessionwire in macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security, under Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on older macOS) and Accessibility. Sessionwire's own Settings > Permissions shows whether both are on.
Take control
- Hover over the person's video and click the pointer icon (Remote Control (Beta)).
- They see Allow [your name] to control your screen? and click Allow.
- They may then see Only the main screen is available for remote control and click Use Main Screen.
- A Remote Control (Beta) window opens for you. Click Start Remote Control, and their screen appears.
Stop control
- You click End Control in the Remote Control window.
- They click Stop Sharing in the banner that says Sessionwire is controlling your screen.
Either person can stop it at any time.
Things to know
- The keyboard works best when both computers use a US QWERTY layout. If your layouts differ, some symbols may come out as the key in the same position on a US keyboard. The Remote Control window lists which keys are sent.
- Screen sharing from a browser doesn't allow control. Both people need the app.
