Run the Sessionwire Network Test | Sessionwire Help

Run the Network Test

The Network Test checks that your network lets Sessionwire connect, and that your browser or the app can use your camera and microphone. Run it before an important Session, or when people can't connect or the connection keeps dropping.

The Network Test is for members. Guests joining from an invite link can't run it.

Run the test

  1. Open your Studio. The test is only available when there are no Guests in it.
  2. Click the Network Test icon at the bottom of the Studio window.
  3. Click Start test. You can ignore Advanced Options.

Read the results

When the tests finish, the Test results window shows each check. You may need to scroll or make the window bigger to see them all.

If everything passes, you'll see: 100% successful. Your network can communicate over all protocols. This means you can make video calls.

If a test fails, your network is usually blocking the kind of connection Sessionwire uses. This is common on office, school and university networks, and sometimes happens at home when an internet provider turns on a new security feature without telling you.

What to tell IT or your internet provider

Sessionwire is a WebRTC service, the same technology many browser-based video tools use. Ask them to allow WebRTC traffic, including UDP, and connections to Sessionwire's STUN and TURN servers.

To show them exactly what failed, click the download button at the top of the Test results window. It saves the results as an image you can send them.

If you can't get it working on a locked-down network, email support@sessionwire.com with the downloaded results, and we'll work it out with you.

Passed, but still having problems?

If the test passes but audio still drops out or video freezes, the cause is usually Wi-Fi. See Use ethernet, not Wi-Fi.
