Read Network Stats in a Session

Network Stats shows how your connection is doing while you're in a Session. Hosts and Guests both have it. Click Network Stats at the bottom of the Session window to open it.

What each number means

Network Quality

An overall score out of 100. Anything in the high 90s is healthy.

RTT

Round trip time: how long it takes data to get from you to Sessionwire and back, in milliseconds. Lower is better. It's a good sign of how healthy your connection is, but it isn't the full delay you'll hear, because your DAW's buffer and your audio interface add their own time on top. See Why there's a delay, and why you can't jam live.

CPU Load

How hard your computer is working. If it reads high, close other programs and plugins you don't need.

Audio Rate and Video Rate

These show how much audio and video you're receiving (down arrow) and sending (up arrow).

Packet Loss

Data that never arrives. Any amount above 0% can cause clicks, dropouts or frozen video.

Jitter

Data arriving unevenly. High jitter makes audio stutter and video judder.

If the numbers look bad

High RTT, packet loss or jitter almost always points to the network rather than Sessionwire.

  1. Plug into your router with an ethernet cable and turn Wi-Fi off. This fixes most problems on its own. See Use ethernet, not Wi-Fi.
  2. Pause big downloads, cloud backups and streaming on your network while you work.
  3. Ask the other people in the Session to check their own Network Stats. The problem may be on their side.

If your numbers stay poor on a wired connection, run the Network Test before your next Session. See Run the Network Test.
