Sessionwire and Pro Tools setup | Sessionwire Help

Use Sessionwire with Pro Tools

Pro Tools uses the AAX versions of the Sessionwire plugins, which the Sessionwire Audio Plugins installer adds on both Mac and Windows.

Turn off Low Latency Monitoring first

Warning

Low Latency Monitoring must be off. With it on, the Send plugin on your master doesn't pass any audio, so nobody hears you.

In Pro Tools, open the Options menu and make sure Low Latency Monitoring isn't ticked. In the same menu, turn off Dynamic Plug-in Processing as well.

Without Low Latency Monitoring, monitor through Pro Tools with a low buffer size. 128 or 256 samples works on most current computers. If you also monitor through your interface's own mixer, you'll hear yourself twice, slightly out of time, which sounds like flanging. Turn one of them off.

Send your mix

  1. Put the Sessionwire Send plugin on your master fader, or on an aux used as a cue mix.
  2. In your Studio, set HQ Audio Source to the Sessionwire Send Plugin.
  3. Press play and check your HQ Audio meter moves in the Mixer.

Details and the cue mix setup are in Send your mix with the Send plugin.

Record a Guest

  1. Turn on the Guest's HQ Audio in your Mixer. See Hear a Guest's HQ Audio.
  2. Create a stereo aux track, put the Sessionwire Receive plugin on it, and set its output to your monitors.
  3. In your Studio, set HQ Audio Destination to the Sessionwire Receive Plugin.
  4. Create a stereo audio track. Send the aux to it through an unused bus, and record-arm it.

If you're sending your mix as well, put the Send plugin on a separate cue aux, not the master, and keep the Receive aux out of that aux. Otherwise your Guest hears themselves back.

Pro Tools doesn't need to run at 48 kHz. The plugins convert the sample rate for you.

Avid hardware

Pro Tools takes over Avid audio drivers while it's open, so Sessionwire can't use your Avid interface for Talkback directly. You'll see the other person's Talkback meter move but hear nothing. Run Talkback through Pro Tools with the Talkback Send and Talkback Receive plugins. See Route Talkback through your DAW.

If the plugins don't show up

If Pro Tools can see the Sessionwire plugins but Sessionwire doesn't list them as a source, the Sessionwire drivers haven't loaded. See Sessionwire drivers or plugins not showing up.
